Surrey County Track & Field Championships 14th & 15th May 2016

The Surrey County Championship at Kingston was well supported as usual but not many DMVAC members competed. On the Saturday,  Bruce Harrold (a veteran in track and field) ran a controlled 5,000m starting steadily and picking up runners in the second half to place 5th in 16 min’s 15.09 secs.  Charlie Wyllie ran in the U/20 1500m being just unable to follow the pace on the last lap burn up, finishing 4th in  4 min’s 8 secs.  Sophia Hervouvin was 6th in a heat of the ladies U/17 100m in 14.12 secs.

The only medal of the day was a bronze for senior Kasia Kublik-Okon with a season’s best discus throw of 28.77 metres.  U/15 sprinters Marcus Austin and Thomas Hughes took part in the very competitive 100m with the former 6th in his heat 13.47 secs.  Thomas won his heat in 12.56 secs, was 4th in semi-final in 12.35 secs and 5th in the final (12.16). On Sunday the boys were back for the 200m with Thomas Hughes again reaching the final.  After coming 2nd in his heat (24.83 secs) he was 3rd in the semi-final in an identical time and 5th in the final (25.01 secs).  Marcus was 5th in his heat in 26.85 secs.

Ben Brunswick cam back from University to run strongly in the U/20 800m being narrowly beaten into 2nd place for a well deserved Silver medal (1.59.07 secs).  In 3,000m races Cameron Smith placed 9th out of 18 under 15’s in a time of 10 min’s 34.06, with Fred Geen 9th U/17 in 10 min’s 36:14.  Ewan  Bate ran really determinedly in the U/171500m to record a good PB of 4 min’s 21.75 secs in 4th position.

Bronze medal for Becky Loomes at Surrey Multi-events Championships

DMVAC member Becky Loomes was rewarded for a lot of hard work during the season with the bronze medal in the under 17 ladies heptathlon at this year’s Surrey multi-events championships at Sutton Arena on 13th-14th September.  On a windy day which affected some of the events she had a new Personal Best  in the long jump (4.92 metres a club record) and javelin (18.01 metres) also equalling her best high jump with 1.47metres.  In other events she putt the shot 7.99 metres and was timed at 13.82 secs (80 m Hurdles), 29.19 secs (200m) and 2 minutes 51 secs (800m).  The 15 year old who has no coach for her throws and jumps, had a total of 3352 points, and will be in the same age group next year.

Young Athletes League Southern Division 2 A24 Match 1

Well done all! There are many 1st and 2nd position performances in the results below. Keep it up and good luck for the rest of the season.
If any other juniors would like to complete in other Young Athletes competitions please contact Dave Stead on 01308 880920 or see your coach. There are still many event slots not being filled and non-scoring places for the popular events. More athletes means we can field some relays teams as well which are always good fun and hopefully we can get some more high positions.

Southern Men’s League Match 2 – Sutton Arena

A team of 10 athletes from Dorking and Mole Valley AC and Holland Sports AC managed to come third in their 2nd Southern Men’s League Match despite a small team. Many athletes competed in more than one event even if it wasn’t their speciality so the team managed to cover most events and at least pick up some points in each. A few more athletes will enable us to be really competitive in this league, especially needed are throwers and sprinters but all are most welcome. In most matches you can do a non-scoring entry for your favourite event if the two team slots are taken so your trip won’t be wasted. All ages from U17 upwards are eligible to compete.
