At the last week’s Surrey ladies cross country match at Esher under 17’s Hannah Morris and Lowri Morris (not related) ran really well in the senior race. Hannah (aged 16) was 1st DMV runner in 37th position with a time of 28 min’s 04 whilst 15 year old Lowri was 3rd scorer in 29.01 (60th). With her Guildford rival absent, Elsa Palmer had no difficulty in winning the combined U/15 and U/17 girls race in 16 mins 50 sec. Tess Johnson was 23rd (20.14) with the Schlaeppi sisters Holly and Leah 34th and 36th (22.11 and 25.53 with the team 4th on 94 points. An inexperienced U/13 team had Ella Morris in 41st position in 15.55 with Ellie Jordan timed at 16.21 (47th) and Amelia Brien 51st (17.05). Poppy Wakelin finished quickly in 17.18 with Ellie Ranger recording 18.18 and Grace Penfold 19.17.
The boys raced at Wimbledon Common with a good turnout especially of the under 13’s who unfortunately have to race with the under 15’s and under 17’s. Oscar Subh-Symons was first DMV runner home in 15.37 (7th U/17), with Ewan Bate 3rd U/15 in 15.53 and an impressive performance from Joe Palmer saw him placed 4th U/13 in 16.26. Jack Goodman was 17th U/13 in a time of 17.03 with under 15’s Cameron Smith and George Robert-Shaw 20th and 27th in their age group (17.34 & 18.23). Oscar Robert-Shaw was only 4 seconds behind his older brother in leading home a group of DMV U/13’s (32nd). Next to finish was Hal Johnson (39th in 19.36) with Jasper Spurden (42nd/20.01), John Spillane (43rd/ 20.09), Josh Earl (47th/20.52) and Noah Brown (51st in 21.59).
